It’s that time of year again..the time when Americans get together and cheer on men running in tights with a ball!
It’s also a time when friends and family get together and eat wings, nachos, and other fun party foods that may throw off your personal health goals. Never fear! This year, we picked out popular regional favorites of the big game contenders (New England & Los Angeles), then found healthier, homemade alternatives that are sure to be a hit at any gathering.
Remember: don’t stress if you decide to eat the original versions of these foods or other so-called “unhealthy” options available at a party. This is just one day in your health journey, and you’re allowed to enjoy yourself! Some days all we can do is stay hydrated and make time for a quick stroll around the block…and that’s ok. Re-commit to your healthy eating plan at the next meal or the next day, check in to make sure every day isn’t an “exception” day, and most importantly, don’t be too hard on yourself.
From cold New England, try these low-salt and vegetarian Boston baked beans, this milk-based (instead of cream-based) New England clam chowder, this lighter Boston cream pie, and a cold lobster roll made with a combo of mayonnaise and Greek yogurt to lighten up the sauce.
If you’re looking for something that is slightly unique, we thought these rosemary-buttered nuts and this white bean dip with pomegranate looked quite tasty, and would fit in nicely with the rest of your game day spread.
If you have any questions, or your own favorite regional dishes, we’d love to hear from you in the Expert Channel in the Brook app! Feel free to reach out with any questions or comments, we’re always happy to talk about food.
