Richard was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 5 years back, but he wasn’t quite ready to accept a need for change in routine. “My past diet and exercise routines had worked before in controlling my blood sugar levels, it should still be working the same way now,” he thought. But, Richard’s A1c crept up to a level that had him feeling alarmed – he knew he needed a change.
Richard wanted to get more involved in his health than just trying new medications, but making appointments to see a diabetes educator or attend information and support classes wasn’t a viable option for him with his busy career as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP), and three young kids. That’s when he discovered Brook – “Brook was the solution I needed for my busy schedule. I can interact with experts that are available at the click of a button on my phone.”
“I had a few high blood sugar readings that I didn’t think much about, but received a comment from the experts about changes I could make, and it has helped me avoid continued hyperglycemic episodes. Instead of just having a number on my glucose meter, Brook is able to notice that I had lower activity, and recommends increasing my steps next time, for example. It is leading to changes, sometimes subtle, but long-lasting in my diabetes and overall health care.”
Richard started using Brook to improve his own health, but after his success, he is excited about the potential benefit for his patients. “I think Brook would be an incredible service to provide to my patients. I can provide hours of education, and referrals to specialists to discuss diets and exercise, but the reality is that more questions always arise. Brook is there to answer those questions, and keep them on track between appointments with me.”
“Brook has surpassed my expectations in every way,” Richard says. “Having someone on my side, every single day, looking over my health decisions has really helped me. I look forward to making this program more attainable to patients, it will be a huge asset to them.”
